Value People Over Profits

Davis Law makes quality legal representation accessible to business owners and individuals, no matter their size or experience. They seize every possible opportunity to empower the community through education – from formal presentations to our monthly newsletters. Davis’ approachable, accessible staff members bring their whole selves to work, and value helping people get connected with the resources and information that they need to thrive. They spend a lot of time thinking about removing the barriers that prevent all artists, creatives, organizers and entrepreneurs from having a thriving business, non-profit or individual career.

Davis Law strives to be a firm where lawyers can enjoy themselves and actually have a deep connection and care for their clients.

How do you intentionally build your community?

We teach. We volunteer our time. We parent. We explicitly state our values and beliefs and stand up against anyone who threatens our many communities. We meet our neighbors at work and home. We ask questions. We find like-minded business owners and join with them in saying “there is another business voice that values people over profits.” We listen to our fellow humans. We follow through. We connect good people with other good people. We say, “Yes.”

We explicitly state our values and beliefs and stand up against anyone who threatens our many communities.

What are the critical stories in your community that need to be spotlighted?

We once completed a team exercise where we listed all of the communities we belong to, and laughed as we realized no one would ever believe this list came from a tiny, four-person law firm. Our communities include the Muslim community, the immigrant community, the LGBTQ community, and so many more. Perhaps the most critical story that touches all of the communities we are a part of is the story of how privilege and access—to cash, to advisors, to people who have also undertaken something new—can make all the difference in whether an idea succeeds or fails. It is our hope that as our firm grows, we can continue to provide opportunities to share the privileges and access that we have with an ever-increasing community of under-estimated creators and entrepreneurs.

Do you have a favorite mantra or quote to keep you going and inspired?

A life lived in fear is a life half lived.

It is our hope that as our firm grows, we can continue to provide opportunities to share the privileges and access that we have with an ever-increasing community of under-estimated creators and entrepreneurs.
