Organized in 1915, East Side Neighborhood Services, Inc. (ESNS) is a nonprofit human service agency that provides social and other services to individuals, families and the communities of primarily Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis. Our purpose is to assist people of all ages and backgrounds in realizing a higher quality of life.

Primary Purpose:

The President provides strategic leadership for the organization and oversees all staff, budgetary and programmatic activities. The President reports directly to the ESNS Board of Directors made up of community leaders.

Essential Functions

Leadership and Vision:

Offer and communicate a cohesive strategic vision for the organization. This vision should unify staff, external stakeholders and individual programs in a common direction.
Lead, motivate and support staff to realize the mission and goals of the organization through high-quality programs, strong administrative practices and a commitment to accountability for results.
Maintain the independence and integrity of the organization in its role as an intermediary with other public, private and nonprofit partners.

Community and Public Relations:

Serve as spokesperson for the organization to external sources.
Connect with a wide and diverse group of partners and stakeholders, including elected officials, civic and business leaders, nonprofit allies, and the general public.
Work with staff to develop key messages and positions and to effectively share those messages through the website, email, social media, print and broadcast outlets and internal communication.

Fundraising:

Provide strategic direction for fundraising initiatives with corporate and philanthropic partners and individual major donors.
Assure a strong fundraising function with diverse revenue sources.
Work with development staff to create and implement a fundraising plan to meet and exceed the annual organizational budget.
Build and maintain relationships with corporate and philanthropic partner and individual donors and actively and directly engage in fundraising.

Leadership and Management of Senior Staff:

Hire, supervise, support and evaluation senior leadership of the organization.
Ensure a positive culture of continuous improvement of programs and services and professional development for staff.
Ensure accountability of program goals through evaluation and commitment to the use of data.

Financial Management:

Work with the Vice President of Finance to ensure strong systems of financial management for the organization.
Monitor finances of the organization on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
Ensure the organization’s continued financial sustainability through long-term planning, forecasting and oversight.

Program Management:

Oversee existing programs and the development of new programs to further the organization’s mission.
Evaluate, measure and share the results of programs; make changes as needed to enhance programmatic outcomes.

Board of Directors:

Engage with board members, utilizing their abilities to further the goals of the organization.
Support board members and committees with regular and open communication.
Serve as ex officio member of board committees as needed.

Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management or similar field required, Master’s degree preferred

Experience Requirement:

10 – 15 years of related leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit service organization.
Strong external relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
Prior experience in or the ability to assess an organization’s financial situation in order to respond in a timely manner to challenging financial issues. Which may include addressing organizational structure changes that are required to realign organizational financial allocations.
