Pollen and AARP Minnesota are proud to present the 2022 50 Over 50 list. Join us as we recognize and celebrate 50 incredible Minnesotans over the age of 50 who are challenging outdated beliefs about aging, living life on their own terms, and improving the lives of others.

The 50 Over 50 list recognizes and celebrates the courageous, compassionate, and selfless acts of service by Minnesotans over the age of 50 who are giving their all as they care for others, reimagine their careers and businesses, and give hope to our communities. They don’t adhere to the belief that our capacity to blaze a trail or shake things up diminishes as we age. They’re living life on their own terms and improving the lives of others all at the same time.

Join AARP Minnesota and Pollen at Quincy Hall in Northeast Minneapolis on the evening of Tuesday, October 25, for a celebration in honor of the 2022 50 Over 50 honorees.

Co-emceed by 50 Over 50 honorees Wokie Weah (2020 Disruptor) and Dr. Antony Stately (2020 Community), with a special performance by Diane Jarvi (2020 Arts). A recording of the awards ceremony will be made available after the event.

Quincy Hall is located just minutes from downtown Minneapolis in the vibrant and trending Northeast Art District neighborhood. Free on-site parking is available at Quincy Hall. There is also street parking on 14th Street, as well as a paid parking lot adjacent to the Indeed Brewery. The venue is also accessible via public transit.

Small bites and a cash bar will be available during the reception.

Thirty under thirty. Forty under forty. Twenty under twenty. We’re bombarded with lists of people under a certain age who are making significant contributions in their communities. Ever wonder why there isn’t a list of people OVER a certain age? So did we. That’s why AARP Minnesota and Pollen teamed up to create a new list. Minnesota’s 50 Over 50 is a first-of-its-kind list honoring 50 incredible individuals over the age of 50 who are making an impact in our state. People who don’t adhere to the belief that you have to be under forty, thirty, or twenty to blaze a trail or shake things up.

SPECIAL THANKS

The final list of 50 Over 50 honorees is determined by AARP Minnesota, Pollen, and a selection committee comprised of cross-sector community leaders from across the state. These community leaders emulate the qualities we’re looking for in our 50 Over 50 honorees. They inspire others with their work, they challenge outdated beliefs, and they’ve made an impact on their community and the people who live there. All of us at Pollen and AARP Minnesota owe a great deal of thanks to our selection committee for all the time and energy they invested in helping us bring 50 Over 50 to life.

Wokie Weah has a deep understanding of youth development, education administration, and organizational development at the local, national and international levels. Wokie retired as the Founding President of Youthprise in 2021, where she provided executive leadership and vision to increase equity with and for Minnesota’s indigenous, low-income, and racially diverse youth for 10 years. She is often described as a disrupter due to her personal commitment to transformational systems change and intergenerational leadership. Her awards and recognition include the 2022 General Mills MLK Recognition Award, the 2021 Facing Race Award, being named a 2020 50 Over 50 Disruptor by AARP Minnesota and Pollen and one of Minnesota Business Magazine’s “(Real) Power 50” in 2016, and was recently awarded the Annual Community Leadership Award from the Charities Review Council.

Prior to Youthprise, Wokie served as Senior Vice President for 18 years at the National Youth Leadership Council. For part of that time, she also worked for UNICEF as an Education Project Officer in Liberia. She is currently co-chair of Every Hour Count’s Youth Voice Rising Initiative. Wokie, a native of Liberia, is a widely-traveled speaker throughout the U.S. and Africa, and has written extensively on service-learning and diversity.

Antony Stately, Ph.D. is the Executive Officer and President of the Native American Community Clinic in south Minneapolis, which provides primary care, dental care, and behavioral health services to the Twin Cities Native American community. Antony (Ojibwe/Oneida) received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in 1997. He formerly worked as the Director of Behavioral Health Programs at the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, in Prior Lake, MN. Previously, he was a Research Scientist and Director of the Center for Translational Research at the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, at the University of Washington-Seattle; Director of Client Services at AIDS Project Los Angeles; and the founding and inaugural Program Director for Seven Generations Child and Family Counseling Services, in Los Angeles. He has taught in clinical graduate programs at UW School of Social Work, Antioch University-Seattle, Phillips Graduate Institute, CSPP/Alliant University-Los Angeles, Antioch University-Los Angeles, and Loyola Marymount University. He has served as a consultant and advisor to the CDC, HRSA, SAMHSA, the Native American AIDS Prevention Center (NAAPC), the US-Mexico Border Health Association (PAHO/WHO), and numerous NGOs and nonprofits delivering health services to tribal and indigenous communities nationally and internationally.

Diane Jarvi is a singer-songwriter who has seven solo recordings and has received a McKnight MacPhail performing fellowship and awarded a Minnesota Arts and Cultural Fund grant. Under the name Diane Jarvenpa, she is the author of The Way She Told her Story, The Tender Wild Things and Divining the Landscape -New Rivers Press and swift, bright, drift and Ancient Wonders, The Modern World -Red Dragonfly Press. She has received The Midwest Independent Publishers Association Award. She is a teaching artist with the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project MN and St Paul’s East Side Arts Council.
