QUESTIONS

1. Do you believe that we could ever have a city without police? (YES or NO only, please)

No

2. What would you do, as an elected official, to bring us closer to police abolition?

I believe we are past the point of reforming the police department. Over the years the City of Minneapolis has paid millions of dollars on settlements because of police misconduct. We need to change the recruitment and training of police officers as well as reducing their areas of responsibility. We also must get rid of the militarized hardware that the police force has acquired over the years. Furthermore, we need to hold bad officers accountable by not allowing them to go from department to department without extensive background checks on public complaints. These changes and many others are needed to ensure the safety of the community and to protect them from police misconduct. The safety of the city’s residents is of paramount importance to me and I will be a strong voice against violence and brutality in all its forms.
