Cedar Lake Photos: As the sun rose in the early morning hours of August 20th, David Chilly started his day with his morning yoga routine on the 169-acre lake. Cedar Lake is located West of the city and is part of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway connecting Theodore Wirth Park, Bde Maka Ska, and Lake of the Isles. The city lakes with their hiking trails and bike paths give people an escape from the bustling downtown and city life. A chance to unplug and enjoy a hike, fish, or swim during the warm summer days in Minnesota.

Snuffy’s Landing: One of the best kept secrets, Sunffy’s landing is located along the Mississippi River in the city of Becker. There is 30 acres of park land with boat access to the river. On any given day you can find people exploring the area, fishing or just sitting under a tree reading a book as the sun sets west of the river.

This is my almost-two year old son, Bolden, and his 6-year-old brother, Stokely. They love the water and spend the majority of the summer in it. Water is so life giving and I love seeing my children so connected to Her.

30 sec. exposure, early evening. I was asked to document a summer camp focused on Ethnic Studies. I was able to find some time to get away and explore. This was a pleasant discovery.

A few attendees at the summer camp had their kids in tow. A small group went down to the dock for a swim. It’s always nice to see youngsters playing in Momma nature’s playground instead of on a screen!

Liping Vong performs amongst the trees. It was cool to see her move so fluidly with no music in almost complete silence except for the sound of the wind through the leaves.

North Shore Lake Superior, Black Beach

30 second exposure, early evening
Traveled to the North Shore for my 46th birthday. I grew up on the West Coast and spent a lot of time with the Ocean. It was energizing. Lake Superior is the closest thing to an ocean here in Minnesota. It’s HUGE. I try to come here as much as possible. It’s nourishing for me.

30 second exposure, mid day
I always stop off at Jay Cooke on the way back from the North Shore. I’ve been to this area dozens of times and the water level is never this low. Normally this would all be completely under water. I took advantage and climbed down to the bottom of where normally thousands of gallons of water would be flowing to capture these images. It is undeniable the immense beauty of Mother Nature during her different stages of life.

This is one of the few spots I go to all year round. It changes into a different world every time. Mother River flows over different rocks every time.
