When people think of fashion hubs, Minnesota is hardly ever in the mix. Without a formal professional organization, and with few places to work full-time in fashion, the local fashion community is left to wonder if it has a sustainable future here. A talented group of designers and event producers are coming together to make sure Minnesota doesn’t go out of style. Rally Cry | Fashion will feature an expert panel’s analysis of the state of the fashion community and a town hall discussion. Our goal is to leave this event full of passion, energy, and—most importantly—tangible ideas for how to make MSP’s fashion community thrive. This event is about more than just inspiration. Gülgün Kayim joined the City of Minneapolis in 2011 in the newly created role of director of arts, culture, and the creative economy. Previously she was the assistant director of the Bush Foundation’s Artist Fellowship Program. Before joining the Bush Foundation, she served as the public art on campus coordinator at the Weisman Art Museum and also consulted extensively on site-specific performance, public art, and artist professional development in the Twin Cities.

Anna Lee is a Saint Paul based milliner and designer with a heart for community and a mind for industry development for independent fashion in Minnesota. She founded her design company Ruby3 in 2000 and proceeded to take on every creative project she could, from modern dance costumes to winter hats for the lovely ladies of Minnesota. She founded MNfashion in 2006 as a response to the success of annual runway show and design incubator, Voltage: Fashion Amplified. She currently works in accessories product development for Target Corporation and is focusing on developing seasonal collections for Ruby3 and mentoring emerging designers.

Previously, he served as Creative Director for the Faribault Woolen Mill Company, a Minnesota based purveyor of woolen goods with nearly 150 years of heritage and expertise. He was tasked with reintroducing the once shuttered manufacturing brand and was responsible for creating its positioning, branding, product line, and developing many of its strategic partnerships including Duluth Pack, Steven Alan, West Elm, and Target.

As a life-long Midwesterner at heart by way of SE Asia, she honed her career skills in MSP, LA, SF, and NYC and has produced unique events ranging from Michael Jackson’s 45th Birthday Party to photo shoots filled with the world’s cutest babies for Gap.com.
