We are excited to announce the new role of Director of Finance and Operations at Black Men Teach. This role will play a critical role in helping Black Men Teach be able to effectively manage its financial and operational functions, and allocate resources in a way that supports the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.We are seeking an enthusiastic hands-on leader to direct and carry out our financial and operational strategy to ensure it stays in strong financial standing. This includes leading budget development and ongoing monitoring, bookkeeping, completing accounts payable and accounts receivable, and providing cash flow and other key financial reports to the Executive Director and Board. This role is also responsible for the operational responsibilities of the organization and ensuring alignment and streamlined processes across the organization. This position reports to the Executive Director.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership/Administrative Activities
Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, ensuring the strategic vision is successfully operationalized across the organization.
Manage, evaluate, and develop direct reports
Provide leadership in developing the organization’s short term and long range financial and operational plans with the Executive Director
Work across functional areas and with colleagues to maintain strong organizational culture
Interface with Finance Committee of Board of Directors
Accounting and Financial
Oversee and complete daily accounting responsibilities including accounts payable/receivable
Manage and monitor the financial performance of the organization including creating reports
Lead reconciliation of all finances, ie. fundraising reporting
Analyze trends and data to enable good business decisions to reduce financial risks for the organization
Create annual budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support programmatic and operational needs
Monitor the annual budget and work closely with the Executive Director to proactively address any areas of concern
Oversee year-end audit process and completion of IRS and state tax filings
Ensure the existence of adequate internal controls to ensure the reliability of financial reporting and safeguarding of organization assets
Identify and implement process improvements to continually enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of financial operations
Operations
Ensure compliance with grant, program, and regulatory requirements
Develop and manage contracts and agreements with vendors and service providers, ensuring the organization receives high-quality services at a reasonable cost
Responsible for organization wide purchasing process and contracts
Ensure streamlined and aligned processes across the organization
Manage building lease and relationship with landlord
Human Resources
Manage payroll and benefits administration, including ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time, and managing benefits enrollment and administration, and periodic tax filings
Oversee compliance with Employee Handbook, including process of employee reviews and compensation adjustments
Support hiring and onboarding processes
IT Administration
Primary staff contact for all technology set-up and troubleshooting
Primary contact for outsourced IT services
Regularly review contract and service provided for efficiency and effectiveness

5+ years of professional experience in an education setting, nonprofit, or for-profit service organization
5+ years of demonstrated success in a finance/accounting/operations role
Bachelor’s degree preferred

Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical business development initiatives
Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Black Men Teach
Ability to design, implement and document business processes to be used by the entire organization
Strong ability to clearly communicate financial information to various audiences
Computer/software skills in Microsoft Office products and QuickBooks, preferred
Detail oriented with the ability to analyze data, recognize trends and communicate solutions

COMPENSATION The annual salary range for this role will be $90k-110k commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition, Black Men Teach offers benefits including:

Paid time off (PTO) which will accrue at the rate of 15 days per year
