We are looking for a Native artist team to work with our environmental restoration team to develop a functional design for a native bee habitat for Wakan Tipi Center.

Until last year, the U of M Bee Lab hosted a honeybee apiary at Wakan Tipi. While honeybees are helpful in agricultural industries, they impact native bee populations in many harmful ways. As Wakan Tipi Center is being constructed, and the ecosystem is further restored, we are beginning to reimagine the ways we can support our native bee relatives at this site.

One of these opportunities is the development of a Native Bee Habitat Sculpture that will functionally serve as bee habitat and provide an opportunity for thoughtful reflection and learning by the public.

We are looking for an Indigenous artist/knowledge keeper team to work with our staff and partners at the U of M Bee Lab to make this vision a reality!
