The Communications and Narrative Officer is responsible for planning and executing communications for RIA projects and the organization as a whole. Externally, this role provides strategic support and vision related to branding, messaging and narrative to advance and grow the impact and profile of Research in Action. Internally, this role collaborates with research leads to provide narrative coaching, content creation, grant writing support, and innovative approaches to ensure all project materials are compelling and comprehensible to collaborators and impacted communities.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
Oversee and direct organizational communications strategy.
Develop and ensure brand alignment and messaging.
Work closely with leadership to develop and support the organization’s strategic initiatives and identify innovative new communications and narrative approaches.
Work closely with project leaders to draft / synthesize content and create materials throughout the process to engage all collaborators
Develop and implement detailed communication plans in line with the organization’s strategies and the Founder/CEO public profile.
Manage the website and social media channels.
Create and maintain a communications calendar, adjusting as needed throughout the year given changes in circumstances and work plan.
Serve as a media point of contact, including drafting all press releases and organizing press conferences.
Analyze and document the effectiveness of marketing and development strategies.
Draft, send, and maintain all project proposal submissions for the organization working closely with the Development Lead.
Provide monthly communication strategy updates to the entire staff.
Provide report writing support, and copy editing for all project deliverables.
Lead the narrative creation of case study write ups to be used on the website and on promotional materials.
Work with external contractor on design and data visualization needs
Work with RIA staff to compile and proofread grant language when relevant
