Join the global fight for a healthy climate by making a difference in local communities. Community Forestry members serve at a nonprofit or public agency with a mission to help communities mitigate and prepare for climate change with a focus on preserving and increasing tree canopy. 

Service with the Community Forestry Initiative includes many projects that support our communities and environment. From tree planting to outreach and education, Community Forestry members are helping build a healthy, resilient, and environmentally just future for all. 

We are currently recruiting for the 2022-23 program year with opportunities beginning in August, October and January. Your commitment to Community Forestry Corps will be 40 hours per week.   

This is an AmeriCorps member position with the Community Forestry Initiative of Climate Impact Corps. You will join an amazing group of members, determined to help our communities. 

How You’ll Take Action 

• Work with partners on planting programs and tree inventories. 
• Help design, construct and manage nursery gravel beds. 

• Play an integral role in outreach and education programs by sharing your experience. 
• Develop Emerald Ash Borer management plans. 
• Develop your skills in a variety of fields including construction management, conservation, landscape design and more.

The Perks Package 

Give your time as a Community Forestry Member and receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 40 or 25 hours per week. 

40 hours/week perks: 

• A stipend of $1,100 paid every 2 weeks 

• $25,300 total for 1,700 hours of service starting in August 2022 
• $20,900 total for 1,350 hours of service starting in October 2022 
• $15,400 total for 1,000 hours of service starting in January 2023 

• Up to $6,495 for tuition or student loans* 
• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment 

• Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered 
• Child care assistance — Based on family size and income

25 hours/week perks: 

• A stipend of $650 paid every 2 weeks 

• $14,950 total for 900 hours of service starting in August 2022 
• $12,350 total for 675 hours of service starting in October 2022 
• $8,450 total for 450 hours of service starting in January 2023 

• Up to $3,247 for tuition or student loans* 

• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment 

*The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child. 

It Starts with a Passion 

Our members come from all walks of life. The most important qualification is a passion to take action for your community – and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our members are: 

• Dependable and have a history of good attendance 

• Able to understand and follow instructions 
• Set a pace and maintain a service schedule of 40 or 25 hours per week 
• Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) 
• Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing  
• 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent 

• A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States* 
• Able to successfully complete a background check

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.

Climate Impact Corps is powered by passionate AmeriCorps members who serve in one of two initiatives: Community Forestry Corps or Home Energy Corps. The program was launched in 2020, to address urgent needs in Minnesota and is administered by Ampact.  

Ampact is a national organization that demonstrates the power of national service to solve complex social problems by creating innovative programs that focus on the key areas of education, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures for communities. These programs include Reading Corps, Math Corps, Early Learning Corps, Heading Home Corps and Recovery  Corps.
