They create beautiful things—houses, memories, and relationships—and work to make our communities smarter, more culturally and environmentally aware, and provide more equitable opportunities for all its members.

What’s the best part of being a small business owner?

The opportunity to channel my values into a tangible, positive force for good. I’m still waiting for the mad cash and long vacations though.

I have the opportunity to channel my values into a tangible, positive force for good.

What responsibilities do you feel as a business leader in your community?

We need to set an example, have high standards, and execute to those standards. This applies not only to our work product, but also how we treat our staff, our vendors, and our clients. My reputation is everything to me. If something in our work doesn’t feel 100% right, it’s wrong, and we need to rethink the solution.

We need to set an example, have high standards, and execute to those standards.

Do you have a favorite mantra or quote to keep you going and inspired?

“Don’t build ugly.” It can apply to a lot of different things, from buildings to interpersonal relationships.
