Meet the people behind the lens as we introduce you to the Pollenites to follow on Instagram. With visual footprints that are sure to inspire, these individuals have a knack for capturing everyday moments in a way that make us want to see more.

ASTRICT1

Tom Horgen is a man of both sides of the river. After living in Minneapolis for more than a decade, the Star Tribune Variety editor moved his family to St. Paul. But despite where his homebase is, he makes repping both cities a part of his daily habit. His Instagram feed encapsulates the best of everyday life in the city, no matter what side of the water you’re on. “You won’t see a lot of crazy angles or heavy filtering (a little bit of VSCO cam, though),” Tom says. “This sounds cheesy, but I want my Instagrams to feel very observational.”

This year Thrillist mentioned him in its story, “13 Msp Instagrams You Need To Follow Right Now,” and CityPages named his Instagram account the best in town. It’s no wonder. Tom’s writing chops shine through in witty captions, and his dedication to supporting and showcasing the best the Twin Cities has to offer never falters. Think pops of color, local sites, new restaurants, and heaps of style. Here are five more reasons @tomhorgen is one to follow.

1. He shows off the Twin Cities with flair. “I’m a big believer in the idea that Minneapolis and St. Paul are two cities that deserve to be shown off. There’s so much to experience here — from food to art to fashion.”

2. It’s hard to make a food photo look unique or interesting these days, but Tom always manages to find an angle that represents both the dish (or drink) and the locale. “Yes, I’m proud to say I’m one of those (annoying) Instagrammers who photographs everything I eat. I can’t be stopped!”

3. Cats. That’s Kima, and Tom snaps lots of cute (and sometimes scary) pictures of the ferocious feline.

4. He’s fashionable and isn’t afraid of color. “I take photos of most everything I wear (so many Red Wing boots) and every place I go (so many coffee shops). Sometimes I feel like Instagram has taken over my life (help me!).”

5. His daughter Aurora is as hip as he is, and of course, supports local just like her dad. “Basically, I’m just trying to show people the stuff I dig in the Twin Cities.”
