Title: Resident Support Specialist (Security)

Reports To: Housing Manager

Schedule: 25+/Wk., Varies, Evenings

Compensation: $19.00/Hour

Job Classification: Full-time, Hourly, Non-exempt.

The Resident Support Specialist (RSP) position focuses on enhancing the quality of life in the housing building by being attentive to the safety and security of residents and the building. This position requires an individual who is flexible enough to take on variety of roles as dictated by the changing needs of the clients, and flexibility in scheduling. The RSP interacts with a wide range of people inside and outside the organization’s setting. It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle crisis situations. The RSP is more than just a friendly presence; they are the crucial link in creating an environment in which residents develop independence and learn to live cooperatively with others. A sense of community occurs when the members of the community respect each other’s needs and rights.

The RSP must be able to react to and respond to medical and mental health emergencies. They must have the ability to convey a positive and professional image to clients, staff and visitors. The RSP must be able to maintain client confidentiality. In addition, this position will require flexibility in scheduling and providing shift coverage. Nights and weekends will be required. Timeliness in arrival and departure of shifts are essential for the safety of the residents and to ensure compliance of Group Residential Housing. The Resident Support Specialist will primarily work with the Resident Assistant (RA) as a team.

When there is not a RA on site, the Resident Support Specialist will be required to fulfill some of the duties of the RA while also fulfilling duties of the RSP position. Examples of duties of the RA that would need to be fulfilled include but are not limited to: dispensing medications to clients, hand out room keys, answer incoming phone calls, greet incoming staff, clients and visitors; provide clients and visitor with information and directions as needed, and sign for packages.

Medium work – Standing most of the time. Occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
